Super Mario 3D Land is a Nintendo 3DS game released in 2011. This was one of the first 3DS games, as it was one of the games that came with the Nintendo 3DS whenever you bought one usually. So, without further ado, let's get on with the review. (I'm a little short on time, so this won't be as long as my last review.)
Graphics: 9 The graphics for this game are stunning. For one of the first 3DS games, I have to say I'm impressed. However, I felt that they could have used the 3D option more valuable to the gameplay and graphics. Like in my last review, when I talked about Kirby Triple Deluxe. But, we're not here to talk about Kirby are we? I don't know if they were being lazy or what, but I rarely used the 3D option while playing this game. It just didn't feel like a true 3D experience. Although, there are these little sections in the game that would be helpful to turn the 3D slider up, I just don't find myself using it.
Sound: 10 The sounds and music in this game are amazing. I keep finding myself humming the first level tune, because it's just so catchy. The songs fit well with every level, and I can't help but listen and enjoy every part of the pieces of music Nintendo has provided for us. I always liked Nintendo's music, and this game is no exception. Especially the final boss theme. Oh my, just have a listen for yourself.
Addictiveness: 6 Here is where the problem of Super Mario 3D Land comes into place for me. I don't find myself playing this game that much anymore. Sure, you may or may not come back to it a few times, but only for a few minutes before you take it out and switch to another game. I've had this problem with Super Mario 3D Land for a while now, and it still is a problem for me to this day. It really bothers me, and it is too bad. I would love to be playing this game more, but I have more games to play that I think are just more addicting.
Story: 10 The story of Super Mario 3D Land is short, sweet, and classic. Just like the original (or most) Mario games, Princess Peach has been kidnapped by Bowser, and it's up to you to save her. I absolutely love this story. It just shows that Nintendo knows that sometimes fans want a story they've used a bunch of times, and other times they want a story that's completely new and different. That's smart, and I like that.
Depth: 10 Super Mario 3D Land has a ton of stuff for completionists like myself to enjoy. There are TONS of Star Medals to collect, with 3 in each level. And, trust me, there are a LOT of levels. You also get stars on the profile selection screen based on what you did. For instance, if you beat the final boss for your first time, you get 1 star on your profile. The game also encourages you to get Gold Flags on all of the levels. I'm telling you, this game is a completionist's heaven.
Difficulty: 7 For most of the game, it isn't that hard. At least, for the beginning levels. Once you beat the game, however, you get introduced to 8 more Special Worlds, with MUCH harder levels in them. And, of course, more Star Coins and Gold Flags. This is the reason I raised my difficulty rating up, because of the Special Worlds. I find myself having trouble with these Special Worlds multiple times. I still haven't beaten them all.
