Thanks for reading my review of Paperboy 2 for the original Game Boy!  --kramer4077

Overall:  6/10--Well for sure this version doesn't live up to the first Paperboy for Game Boy, the NES, or different versions.  You cannot see everything you need to on the screen at the same time.  It's probably easier to see on the computer screen than the teeny, tiny Game Boy screen.  However, the game expects you to watch where you're going, throw newspapers to the houses, and avoid obstacles all at the same time.  This is very difficult because if you make a wrong turn or steer your character the wrong way there could just end up being a blank screen.  I found myself wondering, "Where am I?" several times throughout the game as the screen went to total white.  The game isn't all bad in that it is very challenging to deliver the papers to the correct houses. There is one plus, that you can choose to be a paper-GIRL instead of the regular paper-BOY, although the pictures look similar since you are seeing the back view of the character.

Graphics:  6/10--The thing about the original Game Boy is that there's no color--just black, white, and grays.  I know I'm judging it compared to other Game Boy games, and I have seen better use of the graphics in other games.  The developers left too many places where you can't see what you're doing and you end up on the wrong side of the street or can't see the houses when you need to without riding right up to it.  So for those issues, I have to down-grade the graphics.

Sound:  6/10--There's some decent sound effects, but nothing too fancy in Paperboy 2.

Addictiveness: 3/10--I don't desire to play it again. It's not nearly as good as the first Paperboy.  Some people might like the extra challenges of riding right up to the houses.  I like the original version where the paperboy stayed on the sidewalk and threw the papers from there.  The obstacles and people to avoid seemed overwhelming in this version.  The first Paperboy had just the right amount of distractions to keep it challenging and addicting as well.  This version seemed to overdo it.

Story:  4/10--They could have done so much with a story, but they didn't!  They just act like you're the new paperboy or girl and they show you which houses to deliver to and which ones not to (as if you can memorize the route in the 10 seconds they show it to you)!  In the end of the game you get fired if you don't beat the game, and that's the entire story.

Depth:  6/10--The concept of the game is simple--to deliver newspapers to the subscribers and to avoid the obstacles along the way.  Other than that, there's no extra things going on in.

Difficulty:  9/10--The one thing this version has going for it is that it is difficult to play.  There are all kinds of obstacles to avoid while trying to ride your bike up to the houses to deliver the newspapers.  At one point a GIANT hand reached from the sewer and grabbed me (now that was freaky)!  It certainly makes for interesting game-play!  It was also difficult knowing which houses received the newspaper and which ones didn't.  I just ended up throwing papers everywhere hoping that some of them got to the right places!  I'm not a terrible gamer by any means, but this game just wasn't that enjoyable because of the difficulty.  If you enjoy an overwhelming challenge, this version might be for you!

Another well delivered review!  I'm curious if you or anyone else remembers the actual arcade version of this. I believe it was the original and the controls were actually bike handlebars. Unfortunately, the arcade version on this site has some glitches and until someone gives a good review of a follow up - I'm not polluting my memory of the original. Thanks for the heads up!

thephantombrain : Yes, you're right--the arcade version had handle bars and you bid on them on ebay

Yeah, this version is definitely one you can skip and stick to playing the original!  Thanks for your comments

kramer4077 : You know, you know when your reviews improve, they're going to be outstanding in the future. This is a pretty good review. Lots of detail, well worded for this game, this review was categorized. Your reviews, at first, weren't that good. But this review is great! Keep up the good work!
