I am looking for an amp (not seriously expensive) that has good tone, I have a Spider amp, but it does tend to lack a bit of warmth and would like to get that feeling back if you know what I mean?

My axe you ask? oh yes its a gorgeous cherry red strat.

If you are looking for a amp that has good clean tone I suggest getting a fender amp. I have a Fender Frontman 212R 100 watt and it sounds great especially with a strat. If you are looking for a amp that has a good distorted tone I would get either a Marshall or orange amp.

I use Peavey amps alot. The big Marshalls and Line 6 amps are too confusing for me to work and I get a very good tone from a Peavey.

What do you define as a clean tone exactly? Do we mean angel clean, fairly lean with some reverb or varitone...what do you want exactly? As well, what are you planning to do with this amplifier: are you planning to use it for practice, small gigs, larger shows etc.

I would recommend a Peavy 30=50 watt tube amplifier personally, followed by either Vox or Marshall. You could get a decent amp from these brands for about 300-500 dollars. Your best bet (if you never already did so) is go to the music store and try out the various amps on clean settings. If you still don't have that tone, look at your guitar and see if it can be modded for your purposes.

From an amateur musician, that is my own opinion.
